“The world scene was set for the spread of the gospel. Roman law and roads made travel commonplace. Roman currency and Greek language communicated clearly throughout most of the known world. Large urban centers served as hubs for the economic life of the Empire as well as the spread of the gospel. Pagan gods were losing their credibility. Slavery, sensuality, and luxury had produced a moral vacuum. The Jews were in bondage to Rome and messianic hopes were high. The dispersion of Jews, often with synagogues scattered throughout the world, gave a natural starting point for preaching and hospitality.” From Life Change Series
