Info about Repentance
from the BSF notes:
God restores those who repent and turn to Him in faith. The Holy Spirit first works to convict us of sin. Repentance includes remorse for sin. Taking the time to recognize the impact and consequences of our wrong thoughts, words, and actions is part of repentance. This humbling reality leads the repentant to turn away from sin and solemnly choose to serve God in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Simply saying, “I am sorry,” does not fix the problem of sin. We can never apologize enough or do enough good to make ourselves right before a holy God. A clear confession of sin always accompanies true repentance. Confession involves taking responsibility for personal sin and its offense against God.
Confessing sin and seeking God in repentance are acts of faith – believing and acting on what God has declared to be true. Through Jesus, we can repent and be saved. Those who repent walk in the joy that God has forgiven them and adopted them into His family. Repentance is a grace – or undeserved kindness – of God.
