{"id":603,"date":"2021-01-07T20:23:37","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T20:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.romans15four.com\/?p=603"},"modified":"2021-01-07T20:23:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T20:23:37","slug":"genesis-discussion-sanctification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romans15four.com\/?p=603","title":{"rendered":"Genesis Discussion &#8211; Sanctification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This is a report Cathy gave on Jan 6th<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sanctification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The generic meaning:<\/strong> <strong><em>\u00a0State of proper\u00a0functioning\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br><br>A pen is &#8220;sanctified&#8221; when used to write. \u00a0Eyeglasses are &#8220;sanctified&#8221; when used to improve sight. \u00a0<br><br><strong>Theological sense:<em> \u00a0Things are sanctified when\u00a0they are used for the purpose God intends.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0A human being is &#8220;sanctified&#8221; when he\/she lives according to God&#8217;s design and purpose<br><br>Also defined as God&#8217;s will for us<br>\u00a0<br>1 Thessalonians 4:3 \u00a0 It is God&#8217;s will that you should be sanctified,\u00a0that you should avoid sexual immorality<br><br>Sanctification is mentioned throughout the bible as a common reminder of how to\u00a0align yourself with God&#8217;s command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanctification is the holy spirits work of growing us in holiness to be like Jesus, who is&nbsp;perfectly righteous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanctification also involves our cooperation as we study the bible, pray, obey, and serve God. &nbsp;We need to&nbsp;trust and obey Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Sanctification is also God&#8217;s work in us &#8211; God gives us\u00a0opportunities to depend on him more and more<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0We must love obeying God more than satisfying ourselves. \u00a0When we show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control, we are living by the Holy Spirit , not being ruled by old sinful desires. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our practical righteousness <\/strong>&#8211; The daily conquest of sin in our thoughts and behaviors requires a continual dependence on the\u00a0power of the holy spirit. \u00a0We have a\u00a0responsibility in our spiritual growth: it is to yield to his voice, his truth and actively commit to please him<br><br>1 Corinthians 10:31 \u00a0So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.<br><br>Galatians 5:16-18 \u00a0So I say, walk by the\u00a0spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. \u00a0For the flesh desires what is\u00a0contrary to the spirit and the spirit what is contrary to the flesh.
