One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself with these words, \u2018God, I thank you that I\u2019m not like everyone else\u2014crooks, evildoers, adulterers\u2014or even like this tax collector.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>I fast twice a week. I give a tenth of everything I receive.\u2019\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>But the tax collector stood at a distance. He wouldn\u2019t even lift his eyes to look toward heaven. Rather, he struck his chest and said, \u2018God, show mercy to me, a sinner.\u2019\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>I tell you, this person went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee.
